back to the pool

I'm not crazy athletic but I do like working out every day or so, not because I want to get skinny or for my wedding, but because I would go CRAZY if I didn't. It is a way to make time for me and get lost in my own thoughts and clear my head.

Sadly, falling down the stairs and screwing up my ankle has put a damper in my routine. I was super bummed out at first that there would be no running for quite some time, especially since I was hoping to do a few races this summer with one of my girlfriends.

However, I think that this sprained ankle has been a blessing in disguise. It has forced me to get creative and do things other than running. Instead of using "dreadmill" (as I call it) I have been using the elliptical (which is easier to do your summer reading on) and Yoga (which helps me stand up straighter) and I have started swimming again. I swam competitively growing up, and in high school and even with a masters team in DC, but for some reason gave it up when I moved down here. Let me tell you, I don't know why I did. It is probably the single most relaxing thing in the world for me. No worrying about running into traffic, no worries about how I look while I'm doing it, I don't have to listen to music, even the smell of chlorine makes me nostalgic and happy.

So I guess what I am saying is, yay for this injury?

Also I start my internship today! Yay for museums!
