Who I am

Today I turned twenty-eight. Twenty-seven, I realized, was all about what I wanted, not what I had. I spent much of the year wishing I was many things or wishing certain things would happen to me. But after 365 days of this nonsense, I realized that you can't wish your life away, so I am going to try to focus my energy on who I am this year. Less wishing, more counting my blessings and loving what I got.

And so, today at twenty-eight, I am the following:

I am a wife, a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin. I am a friend. I am oversensitive. I am loyal. I am not a fan of making copies or sitting at a desk all day. I am becoming a fan of pro football (blame husband). I am in love with my current job. I am insecure. I am a huge nerd. I am creative in my own way. I am a runner(actually, I am a half marathoner). I am a wannabe yogi, gardner and baker of pies. I am my mother's daughter. I am a carbavore and a porkatarian. I am not skinny, nor will I ever be and I am (becoming) okay with that. I am persistent as all hell. I am terrible at wearing makeup, loading the dishwasher and remembering where I left my glasses or keys. I am compassionate. I am a little bit of an activist. I am still not sure what I will be when I grow up.

Who are you at your current age?

What a FANTASTIC post! be sure to add "loyal-to-the-core" in front of the mention of "friend".

I still have no clue what I want to be... heck I don't even know where I'm going to be living 4 months from now! But I'm starting to figure out who I am and stand firm by that. PS - I may have to steal your post idea. wonderful

i would say the best part about all of that is that you love your current job! if only everyone could say the same!

At 26, I am a free agent, open to exploring the world's possibilities, a renewed musician, a biker, an environmentalist, a writer, a little bit of an activist, a home cook, a friend, and an unabashed lover of partying.

Happy birthday! My 28th is coming up at the end of May. What a year being 27 has been. I am now a wife, and I too have been wishing this year. But I also made things happen this year. I got married, traveled to Europe, quit my job that I loathed and have figured out the next step. I'm excited to see what 28 brings my way.

Again - happy birthday!

Happiest of birthdays! I keep reading this post and marking it as unread so I can write a proper comment, but I think that at this very moment in time (25 and 7/12ths) what I am is too busy!

But seriously, happy happy birthday and thank you for such lovely posts.

I love that. What are you at your current age? That's a fantastic way of thinking about life. I too, my last year in my twenties spent the year wishing I had more. Wish we had a down payment for a house. Wish we made more money to be more "secure". The year I turned thirty, I spent it thanking the things in my life that I do have. We have wonderful friends a family. I have two amazing loving dogs and a wonderful husband. I am blessed. Here's to your 28th year. Happy birthday and best wishes.
