bonnaroo

A fact which I haven't revealed yet on this blog - or maybe you've caught on to it - JM and I love our music. And that is why we went to Bonnaroo. This was my 3rd year attending and JM's 4th year. We saw so many great musicians and many of my favorites -- My Morning Jacket, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Robert Plant, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Black Keys and Lorretta Lynn to name a few. We also discovered some new favorite bands - Walk the Moon (a fantastic band out of Cleveland-I believe- who performed a GREAT set) and Ryan Bingham & the Dead Horses.

While the music was fantastic, I think this was certainly my last year attending. I missed 08, 09, and 10, but I have to say, the festival has gotten too big and far removed from what it was the first year I attended. I'm finding that there are many people who are there to party and who don't want to see these great artists perform- which is fine I guess - except I wish these late night revelers would not blast techno music at 5:30 in the morning from their campsite when everyone else in the vicinity is sleeping (I'm glaring at you Black SUV with Oklahoma license plate). Or maybe, its a sign that I'm getting old (at 28!!!?) and becoming tired of crowds, and in need of a good nights sleep.

Have you ever been to a music festival? Who are your favorite musicians? New or old?

I'm so sorry to hear that things have gone downhill from your last trip! Upsetting! I haven't been to any music festivals...and really only ever been to 2 concerts ever (insane, I know!). I will have to check out these new band you speak of, I am always looking for new/fresh tunes!

so jealous that you got to see Robert Plant. Rock GOD. however, I am very sad that Bonnaroo has gotten so far from its roots. Maybe JazzFest next year? (note i have no idea if it's too commercialized or not, it always just seems like fun). Love yah

The hubs and I usually hit up the Warped Tour! I know we're a bit old for it, but it keeps us young! haha

Next year try Summerfest in Milwaukee--many,many stages with huge assortment of bands over 10 days-most awesome fireworks on July 3rd AND you can sleep in beds at my place!

Glad you went to Bonnaroo! My friend Jacob went for work (he's a publicist for Pitch Perfect PR) and met a bunch of celebs. Kinda jealous of that and all the awesome music you guys must have heard!

My fiance and I went to Roo in the early years. He stopped going after the 2nd year. I gave it until 2005 before I gave up.

There was a time when the schedule was full of tough decisions...and a lot of running from ten to stage to catch as much of the music as possible. By 2005, I felt as though there was a "clear path" on the schedule and people moved in groups. The indie rock people moved in one sequence. The jamband people moved in another. On top of that, the scene got a little more sketchy (it was always a little sketchy, but when people started to die, I got a little scared).

We started going to All Good in West Virginia after that (about a five hour drive from Cville). We also go to Floyd and the local fests (Crozet Music Fest, Festie, Brew Ridge Trail). We're so lucky to live here!

I also think age is some of it...when I started to get tired of Roo is when I started loving Jazz Fest in New Orleans. You can dance the day and night away, then sleep in your nice comfy Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed and take a lovely, hot shower in the morning. :)
